In the same way, fashion can be interpreted to send an intentional message. The process will, therefore, begin with the designer who then places it in a store where a customer who intends to pass a certain message through this particular garment will pick it (Roshumba Oââ¬â¢Connor, 1999). It, thus, means that in this case, the medium of communication will be the garment that the messenger is putting on. There is almo st no argument that by looking at fashion as a way of sending a message; it will be looked at also as a way of influencing customer trends and tastes (Decker, 2009). Debate would rise as to who is the real source of the message, whether it is the designer or the garment wearer? On the one hand, this is not an easy question to answer, but it appears both the designer and the consumer come from the same school of thought. Indeed, the fact that they are brought together by the garment is a clear indication that there is a common or shared opinion between them. The semiotic model The semiotic model reverses the communication process in that the message precedes the communicating process. This means that before a particular style of clothing is preferred over another, there is a premeditated process that has a clearly outlined message. Unlike the process model where the design comes before the message, the wearer does not land on a garment by default because they intend to send a stateme nt through the garment chose. An example can be driven from the sporting activity in several countries (Fernie, 1997) It is observed that the fans come out during matches dressed in colors and garments that represent the teams they support. By doing so, they have already sent a strong indication as to where they belong to as far as the match is concerned. In this regard, the Semiotic model can be said to have elements of influencing customer trends by season or moments. People choose to wear what they put on because they are conscious of what others will make out of it (Belmonte, 2012). Fashion and Cultural Attributes Another school of thought bases its ideologies on the argument that fashion and way of dressing represent a certain culture or allegiance to particular customs and practices (Bean Bidner, 2005). This model fronts the idea that just as a society brings forward its practices though dance, artifacts and institutions, it is also possible to bring out beliefs and values th rough fashion, clothing and design. In this case, a group of people who share the same values will put on resembling clothe patterns either partially or fully. The Muslim society can be a good example in this regard. More often, one will require not be introduced to a Muslim by name, but the mode of dressing may send a strong, message concerning his beliefs. Conclusion To a certain extent, it may seem that both the label and the consumer are out to send a set of messages. This is demonstrate d by the thought that sometimes, the designer will intend to pass a certain message using his garment, but the consumer picks the same garment for a completely different reason. If this happens, the message of the designer will be seen to be passed but not clearly explained. There might also be a scenario where the wearer of the garment may choose it for the same reason it was intended. This is quite common in a situation where clothes are picked for selected events. In this case, the message of the designer coincides with what the wearer had in mind when purchasing the garment (Belmonte, 2012). For Quicksilver, the ââ¬Å"demanding outdoor sports lifestyleâ⬠sold at mid-to-high end prices is their style (Quicksilver, 2011). On the one hand, this is a strong statement that may be interpreted to mean there is an emphasis on durability and quality, while on the other hand, it will be meant to say that these garments are for those who can truly afford them. At the same time, the w earer will make a statement of being wealth and having a discreet style. Such statements are made alongside a touch of class in such a way that a garment may send more than one message. However, there cannot be one particular way of defining what message the consumer intends to pass. Similarly, there is no direct definition as to the message being passed across by the designer. Essay Sample About Alice Walker Write More About a Novelist In the summer of 1952 while playing Cowboys and Indians with her older brothers, Alice Walker at the age of eight years old, was blinded in her right eye by an errant BB gun pellet shot by one of her brothers. Alice became so self-conscious of the large white scar tissue left in her right eye, that she no longer held her head up because she felt ugly and ashamed of herself. When she was fourteen years old, her brother Bill had the cataract removed for Alice by a doctor in Boston, but regretfully her vision never returned. For so many years Alice Walker wanted nothing else but to be beautiful. Then one day she remembered what the doctor had said to her, ââ¬Å"Eyes are sympathetic. If one is blind, the other will likely become blind too.â⬠For so long, Alice had taken what that doctor had said and made it a reality. She had forgotten to look at all the great opportunities that life offered her and focused only on her outward appearance because Alice was so consumed with the impor tance that society placed on beauty. Alice couldnââ¬â¢t accept her own physical disability and this clouded her ability to live life to its fullest. Alice saw things, but she didnââ¬â¢t perceive them. Until the day her husband said to her, ââ¬Å"I thought you made peace with that,â⬠and suddenly she started remembering the important things in life, like the gift of sight and the possibility of never seeing and perceiving the beauty of the desert. Beauty is so easily overrated. An omnipresent characteristic, beauty has stolen the eye of todayââ¬â¢s youth. Todayââ¬â¢s corporate advertisers are now dictating what beauty is because it sells and makes a lot of money. From a very early age, the concept of beauty is drummed into the minds of todayââ¬â¢s youth and the advertisers push all the products that will help them achieve this ultimate goal, from hairstyle, make-up, clothes, and body weight. Gone are the days where a personââ¬â¢s inner beauty accounted for so much more than a personââ¬â¢s physical beauty. It was more important on how you styled the eloquence in your conversations than how you styled your hair. What is it about beauty that drives everyone to possess but a fraction of it? In the end, it all comes down to acceptance. People believe that once they are beautiful, their friends, their peers and their companions will accept them. The problem is itââ¬â¢s true for the most part. Because everyone is so absorbed with outer beauty that once they find someone who possesses it, they are automatically accepted into the social ring. Alice emphasizes that once she got that cataract removed from her eye, she immediately became a different person. She got the man of her dreams, became valedictorian for her high school and was also Prom Queen. But really now, what is beauty? Hereââ¬â¢s what I think; Beauty is a quality or combination of qualities that gives great pleasure to the senses or to the mind and spirit. This is the way I believe humanities sense of beauty has become perverted. There are now too few who find great pleasure in their inner beauty. Remember the quote: ââ¬Å"Beauty is in the eye of the beholder.â⬠I hate to say it but I disagree. Maybe somewhere along the lines of: ââ¬Å"True beauty no longer matters in anyoneââ¬â¢s eyes.â⬠Beauty is usually found in the unexpected. The day Alice Walker was putting her daughter Rebecca to sleep is when reality and realization finally set in for Alice. Alice was constantly worrying about the day her daughter would discover that her motherââ¬â¢s eyes were different from other people. Then the day came when Rebecca focused on her motherââ¬â¢s face. From personal experience, Alice knows how honest children can be in their observations and regretted the day when Rebecca would focus on her disfigured eye. However, when Rebecca said, ââ¬Å"Mommy, thereââ¬â¢s a world in your eye,â⬠and ââ¬Å"Mommy, where did you get the world in your eye?â⬠Thatââ¬â¢s the day Alice finally learned to look upon herself and know that it was possible to love that world in her eye and remembering all the beautiful and important things in life that had faded away from her main focus. In the end, Alice learned the true value of life and what was important. Since she was a little girl she was always so used to people telling her how cute and adorable she was, until that horrible day when she was eight years old that literally changed her life for the worst or so she thought. Alice goes on to say that she would sit in front of the mirror before going to bed and abuse her eye. She would rant and rave about how much she hated her eye and how she wished it would clear up by morning. Alice would never pray for sight, only beauty. It goes to show how a tiny disfigurement can almost ruin a personââ¬â¢s life and how a few simple words from another can completely change oneââ¬â¢s perspective on everything that a person grew up believing. Alice lost sight of everything that was important to her because she was so obsessed with her physical appearance instead of realizing how beautiful it is just being able to see the world through her one good eye. After Alice left her daughterââ¬â¢s room, she dreamt of a beautiful girl dancing and she realizes that the beautiful girl in her dream was no one other, than herself.

The profits for the last three years are given in the decreasing order starting from 2009, $12. 27 billion, $12. 95 billion and $ 10. 48 billion. The CEO of the company is Patrick Cescau who is a very renowned and well learned person with extensive professional experience. The company has always been known for its employee leadership where the employees are given full authority to work in their own way. The major decisions are done by senior managers while the junior management is also given freedom in decision making. The overall decision making is centralized in the company where the major decisions are taken by the senior management. The company works very hard for developing good relations with the employees as the company pays special attention towards helping the employees grow the employees professionally. Procter and Gamble is listed among the Canadaââ¬â¢s top 100 employers as the company works very hard towards making itself as one of the best employers by helping the employers grow in their professional lives. The company is considered as a leader in the employee- benefit program. The decision making in the company is decentralized where the employees have the autonomy to decide for themselves. The company has a complete strategic unit in place which is responsible for predicting various factors of the company. Johnson and Johnson offer variety of benefits for its employees which includes different long term and short term perks. The employees are given ample opportunities to grow in their careers which give them a job satisfaction. The company has a decentralized management approach and the autonomy for decision making is given to everyone in the company. The employees consider themselves as small entrepreneurs who have full autonomy over their work. The employees are considered as one of the most important assets of the company. Organization Unileverââ¬â¢s philosophy is to implement the highest level of corporate behavior towards all the strategic public of the company. The organization is committed to providing quality products to the consumers. The organization works with integrity and commitment in order to get better and improved products for the consumers. The company fulfills all its responsibilities towards all its stake holders which include the employees, customers, the government and the other strategic public of the company. The company enjoys the benefit of strong brand recognition. The current business strategy adopted by the organization is differentiation strategy where the company differentiates itself by the new product development of the company and the quality of advertisement and branding. The philosophy of Procter and Gamble is to provide quality products to its consumer where the bottom line of the philosophy is to improve the lives of the consumers by providing them with better products. The core strength of the company revolves around understanding the consumers and innovating in order to give them a better living standard. The company is very keen about innovation and thus spend pretty large sum of money. The company has been pretty successful in its mergers and acquisition strategies as it has been very successful in its acquisitions of various companies like Clairol in 2001, Wella in 2003 and Gillette in 2005. These successful acquisitions have lead to the increase in the stakeholderââ¬â¢s value. Johnson and Johnson care for its consumers a lot and are constantly working to get new and better products for the customers. The company emphasizes the most on employee empowerment and decentralization of the employees. The company is managed for long term and the people are considered very important in the organization. The companyââ¬â¢s philosophy of taking care of the consumers is what is their differentiation strategies. The company has differentiated its products over the factors which show their caring attitude towards the consumers. The company works very closely with its customers and suppliers which benefits them as the company helps in reducing their costs. The company has set a standard which the suppliers are bound to follow. This makes suppliers more efficient in their activities. Unilever is a very responsible organization as it fulfills its social responsibility by working to save the environment and the society. It is also seen working in the field of health and well being of the individuals. The company has its set principles that it tries to follow to work ethically but has been trapped in various controversies lately in various countries. It collaborates very closely with its suppliers and other partners and provides them with new and improved techniques which help the various partners in reducing wastages and costs. The organization is also very active in fulfilling its social responsibilities towards the society. The company has been very active in providing the unprivileged part of the world with various things like education, safe drinking water and other hygiene factors. Other than that the company also has a complete code of conduct which it strictly follows and makes sure that it works ethically. (Sustainibility, N. D. ) Similar to the other two companies, Johnson Johnson has also built good relations with their suppliers due to which both the company and the suppliers are benefitting. The company is very socially responsible as it is working to save the environment and the society. The organization has previously set various examples which ahs shown their concern about the health of the people. The organization has recalled the stock various times and incurred huge loses in order to save the humanity. (Our caring, n. d. ) Analysis: The data gathered about the three companies is sufficient to analyze all of them and come to a conclusion that which is the better organization. Looking from the financial perspective we can see that Procter and Gamble is a much larger organization than the other two. The company has been ranked 29 on the Forbes list while the rest two are much behind it. The company enjoys more profit and also is very large in terms of market capitalization and worth of the net assets. Moving on to the other perspectives what can be analyzed is that PG is also better in the organization, management and external factors. Though the three companies are all equally working hard to be the best but still PG has an edge as it is also considered as the most aspiring employer. The company is also better when it comes to the philosophy because it can be seen that it is very concerned about the customers and so is spending huge on innovation. Procter and Gamble has been very successful in keeping itself away from major controversies and is working hard to give more to the society. Conclusion From the research it can be concluded that PG is the best managed company out of the three which has been managed in the best manner in terms of the organizational structure and the overall management. Moral Dilemma Essay -- Philosophy Essays
Moral Dilemma As human beings, we are forced to accept the inevitability of being unwillingly confronted with situations that test the strength of our morality and character. In the midst of deep moral conflict we become immensely introspective and we follow our intuition with the hopes of it guiding us towards the morally correct decision. However, how can we be sure that we have acted morally in a situation that is so morbid and perverse that our intuition is completely torn? This is the dilemma that is faced by the mother who is given a terrible choice by a Nazi officer: either the officer will kill all three of her children, or the mother must kill one in order preserve the lives of the other two. In this situation, guilt remorse and intense emotional pain are unavoidable, thus the mother is forced to reflect upon her intrinsic morals and values to guide her choice, however horrific it may be. In beginning to tackle this terrible dilemma, a fundamental aspect of this situation must first be realized: it is a woman who is faced with this crippling decision. Although subtle, there is an insinuation behind this that will ultimately play a large role in the determination of the final decision. In assigning the moral responsibility to a woman, and more specifically a mother, there is an implication that a different and distinct type of moral deliberation comes into play. In a study performed by psychologist Carol Gillian, it was found that the moral reasoning of a group of women was "typically more embedded in a context of particular others than was the reasoning or a comparable group of men" (Held 724). When we focus on the experience of women we are "able to see a set of moral concerns becoming ... ...nt emotion as a part of morality, we must regard every action in the same context, and this is clearly an impossibility for us as human beings. We appreciate and understand that we are all practical, emotional beings as opposed to rational, calculating beings. Thus, we allow our emotions to influence what actions we deem as morally acceptable and it is only natural that they should be an integral part of moral deliberation. In any situation as atrocious as this, the correct line of moral action is not always clear. However, in considering both emotion and reason, it is possible to reach a moral decision. Sometimes when we are put in situations against our will our intuition is torn and making the right decision can be difficult. The only thing we can do in these situations is turn introspectively to our feelings and reason, and understand that we are only human.
